THE man running the shop approached me as soon as I began examining one of the T-shirts on the rack. 'It's not the one on the album cover, you know,' he said.'If you want to see that you have to go to the casino.' I knew that. His shop was just yards from the now derelict casino, which high above the boardwalk carried a banner bearing the immortal words: 'Greetings from Asbury Park, NJ'.
By the strangest of coincidences, one of the first albums I ever bought as a teenager bore exactly the same words and image on its front cover. The man in the shop knew that without even asking.
