Endothelin-1 (ET-1) is a bio-peptide with a strong vasoconstrictive action which plays an important role in the regulation of hypertension. The author reports on the effects of magnetic needle acupuncture on blood pressure and plasma ET-1 levels. 60 cases were randomly assigned to a treatment and a control group. Of the 30 patients in the treatment group, there were 24 males and 6 females, aged 56.7 [+ or -] 10.3 years. Of the 30 patients in the control group, there were 22 males and 8 females, aged 57.5 [+ or -] 9.9 years.
