Nov. 4--DPT Laboratories opened a modern, 258,000-square-foot research, development and distribution facility on the South Side on Friday that was touted as a boon to the city and the surrounding area.

Former Mayor Howard Peak, who chairs the Brooks Development Authority that built the dual-building facility and leased it to DPT, said the success of the pharmaceutical research and production company should lure other technology-based companies to the Brooks City-Base research park.
