National Police Commissioner Jackie Selebi is "hard at work" reviewing applications of all the police officers who applied for leave over the festive season - on his own.
His spokeswoman, Sally de Beer, said last night "the commissioner is doing all the work himself with no assistance from anybody".
De Beer said Selebi was looking at all the applications "individually, and seemed to be managing because the applications were not overwhelming".
He earlier called on his police force to sacrifice leave over the festive season.
