While it may be old-fashioned to say such a thing about a woman, Joanne Carson's life has been defined largely by two men. The first was Johnny Carson, who gave the former Joanne Copeland, herself a television personality in the early Sixties, entree into the world of the Beautiful People after their marriage, in 1963.
The other was Truman Capote. Carson met the writer 40 years ago this fall and counted him among her closest friends until his death, in 1984.
