Cervical spondylosis, also known as cervical osteoarthritis, is a disease frequently encountered in clinic amongst middle-aged and elderly patients. Chronic degeneration of the cervical discs allows the cervical vertebrae (typically C5-C7) to rub together causing wear and the formation of bony ridges or osteophytes. Progressive degeneration of the vertebrae can cause narrowing of the spinal canal and pressure on the spinal cord, nerve roots and blood vessels running up to the brain.
