Following an agreement signed in December last year, Sardinia Gold Mining S.p.A. (SGM) was established at the end of January this year to continue exploration and commence development of gold reserves estimated at more than 360,000 oz on the Mediterranean island of Sardinia. SGM is a joint venture between Australian companies Gemcor Ltd (35%), General Gold Resources (35%), and Progemisa S.p.A, an Italian quasi-governmental company which has led exploration for minerals in Sardinia.
