Nov. 7--Designer Greetings Inc., a privately owned card manufacturer on Staten Island, N.Y., has bought the name and trademark of the national retail chain CardSmart for just over $100,000.
CardSmart, a chain of 156 independently owned and operated retail stores around the country, including 6 in Rhode Island, was formerly owned by failed card maker Paramount Cards Inc. CardSmart's name, trademark and other "intellectual assets" were put up for sale after Pawtucket-based Paramount was forced into state receivership in July.
