Nov. 7--One of the first American women in space, a longtime Buffalo Museum of Science director and five researchers will receive the Hauptman-Woodward Medical Research Institute's 2006 Pioneers of Science awards Wednesday in Kleinhans Music Hall. Aviation pioneer Glenn H. Curtiss and Dr. Robert Guthrie, who invented a screening test for infant mental retardation, will be honored posthumously. Contemporary honorees are Ellen Shulman Baker, Ernst E. Both, Stephen Cook, Thomas Dougherty, Robert Gundlach, Michael Lockett and Frederick Sachs.
