Nov. 8--If you think the Northern Illinois Food Bank's headquarters looks more like a trucking terminal than a social service agency, its executive director, for one, won't argue.
It takes a major operation to haul 20 million pounds of food a year to 520 food pantries, soup kitchens and shelters in 13 counties, said Dennis Smith, who heads the St. Charles-based agency.
"If you were to take a business model, what we basically are is a trucking company that's moving food to needy people," he said.
