Nov. 8--Virginia voters easily approved an emotionally charged constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage.
In late returns Tuesday, about 58 percent of voters approved the measure; 42 percent opposed it, with about 95 percent of precincts reporting.
"We can now say that Virginians have once and for all rejected the idea of redefining marriage," said Victoria Cobb, executive director of the Family Foundation that pushed the measure. "The people of Virginia have spoken clearly -- the issue of marriage is settled as one man and one woman.
"We've cut the wedding cake, and we're enjoying the victory."
