Nov. 10--The lights may soon be out for new neon signs in Deerfield as officials consider regulations aimed at cleaning up the appearance of windows in the village's commercial districts.
After months of meetings, a committee formed to study window signs decided that although they are an important way for local businesses to advertise, too many can create clutter and confuse shoppers.
"It's really not about neon," said Trustee Harriet Rosenthal, who led the committee. "It's about having tasteful window signage in our commercial areas. It's something that's been on everyone's mind for a long time."
