Staging the restoration of the historic Stanley Theatre called upon a cast of countless consultants, designers, planners, contractors, specifiers, craftsmen, architects and engineers to perform a variety of roles. The project was one of proportion, and the results were dramatic. The Benedum Center for the Performing Arts evolved as a show stopper in the Cultural District of downtown Pittsburgh.
Promoted as Pittsburgh's "Palace of Amusement," the original Stanley Theatre opened to the public on February 27, 1928. It was designed by the Hoffman Henon architectural firm in Philadelphia and built for $3 million as part of a $10 million complex in downtown Pittsburgh. ...
