Introductions hit an all-time low as manufacturers take a break from playing patty-cake.

Baby food companies concentrated on their existing products instead of developing new ones in 1993. Only seven new baby foods were introduced last year, as reported by New Product News. That's an 86% decrease from the 53 reported the year before.

Why the new product slowdown? Perhaps baby food aisles in supermarkets are full. With major product blitzes in recent years by Gerber and Beech-Nut, today's consumers have many more choices.
