Energy independence for the US is unattainable and political promises to the contrary are irresponsible, a top Saudi Arabian oil executive said Monday.
Growing demand for fossil fuels in the US matched with shrinking supplies mean the reality is interdependence with Saudi Arabia and other oil-producing nations, said Saudi Aramco's Khalid al-Falih, senior vice president of industrial relations.
"Energy independence in its literal sense of self-sufficiency can only be a dream, while energy interdependence is the reality," al-Falih said.
