Israel is experiencing a venture capital boom that will likely change the face of its high-tech industry and leave permanent marks on its economy. The question many venture capitalists are asking is whether those effects will be to the benefit or the detriment of the industry.

Until just a few years ago, there were few banks and only one venture capital fund operating in Israel. In the past year alone, nearly $300 million worth of venture capital has been raised by fund managers and an additional $400 million by Israeli companies on the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange, who issued shares "for no particular purpose" and are now looking for high-risk investments.
