IOWA CITY, Iowa -- University of Iowa Community Credit Union is moving forward with plans to become Optiva CU despite complaints from a handful of members that the new name lacks originality and has no connection to the community.
"Anytime you have a credit union with a strong bond-especially one with a bond as strong as a Big 10 university-any name change is going to draw strong reactions," said Mark Weber, President of Weber Marketing Group, Seattle, Wash.
Those reactions included phone calls by a handful of members to the credit union and the local media alleging wasted funds and voter fraud, claims that CU officials say simply are not true.
