Nineteen EU defence ministers have agreed to launch a three-year 54.23 million joint investment research programme (JIP) into technologies to protect their armed forces from threats such as snipers, booby traps and improvised bombs. The situation has changed from 10 November (see Europolitics 3187) in that Austria and Greece have decided to join the programme and Hungary has increased its contribution.
