Cable-television baron John Malone is moving to the big screen.
The Liberty Media chairman's Starz unit on Monday announced the creation of a new movie studio, called Overture Films, headed by Hollywood veterans Chris McGurk and Danny Rosett.
The creation of Overture completes Starz's yearlong transformation into a soup-to-nuts media company. Overture will produce or buy as many as 12 films a year. Once a movie's theatrical run is finished, Starz will distribute the film through its premium pay-TV channels, Vongo Internet service and recently acquired Anchor Bay Entertainment home-video business.
