Nov. 14--Food does not cause or worsen acne. "Cola, chocolate, fried foods don't have a major role or any role in the formation of acne," says Stamford dermatologist Samuel L. Gettler.
Stress does not cause acne.
"I have never read a study that stress makes acne worse, but stress in general contributes to disorders like psoriasis and eczema," he says. "I've never read a study that stress can make acne worse, but I've had patients tell me that."
However, drugs that treat severe stress or depression may have acne among its side effects, adds Gettler.
