Director Eric Simonson has always loved watching baseball. "Especially on television," he says. "I love the behind-the-pitcher camera shot. TV really captures the dramatic ritual between pitcher and hitter in a way unavailable to the spectator in the park." While some purists may balk at this, Simonson's current project, his own adaptation of Bang the Drum Slowly - a baseball play adapted from a film that he first saw on television - reflects his unsullied love of the game. Best known as a sudsy 1973 movie starring Michael Moriarty and Robert De Niro but originally a 1956 novel by Mark Harris, the drama will run through April 10 at Boston's Huntington Theatre Company.
