In 1990, When Between Worlds: Contemporary Asian-American Plays (Theatre Communications Group), the first anthology of Asian American drama, appeared, Asian Americans were both pleased and chagrined. We were pleased that there were enough plays by Asian American dramatists to be collected, but some were chagrined that a non-Asian American - Misha Berson, theatre critic for the San Francisco Bay Guardian and teacher at San Francisco State University - saw the value of such a collection and did the work that one of us should have done.
