Nov. 15--The Dow Jones industrial average and the Standard & Poor's 500 constitute an exclusive club, one the Ocean Tomo 300 patent index wants to join.
Launched last month by Ocean Tomo, a Chicago-based intellectual-property firm, the stock index consists of 300 diverse companies that Ocean Tomo ranks as having the strongest patent portfolios going.
The firm believes an information-based economy needs a way for people to make investment decisions based upon intellectual-property assets, and the new index is intended to enable that.
