Nov. 15--A cherished painting that adorned a Chicago Heights church that was demolished earlier this year has found a new home. The large, circular painting depicting Christ's ascension into heaven, will be hung in St. Rocco Oratory, also in Chicago Heights. Bernadine Gwiazda, 76, of Steger is donating the work that hung for 22 years above the altar in St. Joseph Catholic Church. Gwiazda was a lifelong member of the 100-year-old church that was closed by the Chicago Catholic Archdiocese in 1990 because of decreasing membership and increasing debt.
