Hungarian gov't to mount legal challenge to new EU quality rules on maize intervention buying

BUDAPEST. NOVEMBER 15. INTERFAX CENTRAL EUROPE - The Hungarian government is to launch a legal challenge against new EU quality regulations for intervention buying of maize, which it claims discriminates against Hungarian farmers, the cabinet announced in a statement following its weekly sitting Wednesday.

"The government will extend a request to the European Court of Justice aimed at the repeal of an EU directive, in force since November 1, which damages the interests of domestic maize producers," government spokeswoman Emese Danks said in the statement.
