WHATEVER YOU WANT to call it--a 'security barrier', or the 'annexation' or 'apartheid' Wall--it is Israel's largest and costliest engineering feat in the nation's 58-year history. The 'internationally recognised' border, or 1949 Armistice line, is 315km long and yet the Wall will stretch some 703km. If it truly is a security barrier, as the Israeli government asserts--though conceding that it may have "political implications"--why is it more than twice the length of the official, legal border separating Israel from the West Bank?
