MONTREAL -- A variety of new therapeutic approaches are being utilized to control airway inflammation in cystic fibrosis, but the optimal form of therapy remains to be defined, Dr. Felix Ratjen said at the Seventh International Congress on Pediatric Pulmonology.
Airway inflammation is present in most cystic fibrosis (CF) patients, but it is not yet known whether this is specific to CF or related to a defect of mucus airway clearance. Therefore, two different therapeutic approaches have emerged--one that directly targets inflammation and a second that targets the underlying defect.
