In a correctional setting, security is a major concern. In fact, it is the number one job of correctional officers. Historically, officers have had to rely on limited resources to maintain the security of a facility and the safety of staff and inmates. With the advancement of technology, however, officers now have an increased pool of resources to do their jobs. Technology--such as biometrics, electronic drug detection, audio and visual surveillance systems, and GIS tracking and monitoring systems--go hand-in-hand with maintaining security and safety.
