Nov. 16--A Cook County jury on Wednesday convicted an alleged gang member of murder in the 2003 death of a 7-year-old girl who was hit by a stray bullet as she played in front of her Pilsen area home.
The jury deliberated for more than four hours before finding Juan Garcia, 19, of the 2400 block of South Pulaski Road guilty of the Aug. 20, 2003, killing of Ana Mateo.
Ana's parents, Federico and Maria Felix Mateo, were too emotional to talk after the verdict, but a family friend said this Sunday would have been the girl's 11th birthday.
