Nov. 16--SANTA ROSA BEACH -- A large mixed-use development called Prominence has won the approval of the Walton County Commission.
The commission gave the project the green light Tuesday night after months of debate between the developer and the county about protection of sand pine scrub habitat on the project's 79.2 acres.
The developer, Destin-based Deer Lake Development LLC, has revised its plans in order to preserve about half of the 60 acres of habitat, which has satisfied the county's requirements, said county planner Brian Martinez.
