Orthopedic prices don't match case volume, survey shows.(SURVEY)

For years, materials managers have worked to overcome the forces of physician preference in orthopedic implant contracting, seeking to curb mounting prices.

But have they also been in the dark about what they and their hospitals really pay for the implants?

Possibly, according to a survey released last summer, conducted by Bruce Nudell, an analyst with the investment firm Sanford C. Bernstein & Company in New York. He conducted the survey because the prices of medical device company stocks that the firm tracks had been falling.
