Electromedical equipment index declines in August.(PRICE WATCH)

The finished goods component of the Producer Price Index for August 2006 was 162.1. It was up 0.1% from July and up 3.7% for the year. Among the medical-surgical categories surveyed, the average change for the month was 0%, with a range from--0.7% for electromedical equipment to + 0.6% for surgical and medical instruments.

The average annual change as of August was + 0.7%.

Over-the-counter drugs down

On the consumer side, the August 2006 unadjusted medical care commodities component of the Consumer Price Index was 287.6, up 0.2% from July and up 3.9% for the year.

Internal and respiratory over-the-counter drugs, at 183.5, were down by 0.1% compared with July.
