Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (MCS) was first described in the 1980s, yet it has remained controversial. The resistance to the concept of MCS has come from scientists who pointed out the lack of solid scientific diagnostic tests. Resistance has also come from industry leaders, who have trouble accepting the proposition that their products make a great number of people sick.
