For Bob Black, the image is one to remember. In 2000, Black was visiting the Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church on the city's South Side as it paid tribute to Ludella Evans-Reed for her 50th anniversary as minister of music. Evans-Reed sat near the pulpit in front of the choir while people heaped accolades upon her. As the choir began to sing, she could not stay seated as the music surged behind her. "She just had to turn around, jump up and take over," said Black, 67, the first African American photographer at the Chicago Sun-Times. "At the height of that moment, I took her picture."
