Nov. 19--WETHERSFIELD -- As a member of the CIAC field hockey committee, Babby Nuhn is usually one of the coaches in the middle of the field after state championship games, handing out medals and plaques and congratulating the winners.
Saturday, as darkness fell on the Wethersfield High field, Nuhn was the one receiving congratulations and a plaque.
Nuhn's North Branford team not only advanced to the Class S title game for the first time in 19 years, it won. The fifth-seeded Thunderbirds upset last year's co-champion Haddam-Killingworth 1-0 in overtime to win their first state championship since 1981.
