UPSTATE'S PRICEY HEALTH PLANS; SURVEY: REGION OUTPACES NATION IN COST, RANGE OF BENEFITS.(News)

Health benefit costs rose this year by 8.6 percent in Upstate New York, significantly higher than the nation's 6.1 percent average increase, according to a survey being released today by Mercer Health & Benefits LLC.

The increase pushed the average Upstate employee's health benefit cost to $7,762 a year, the survey shows.

"Benefit designs in Upstate New York are richer than the norms nationally and regionally," said Tom Flynn, of Mercer.
