CERAMICS ARTIST SHIFTS TO SELLABLE ITEMS.(LOCAL)(CATCHING UP)(Column)

Sheboygan Falls ceramics artist Terry Couch, who learned to his disappointment a year ago that his ceramic balls fit the legal definition of garbage, is still producing his art.

But "right now that project is largely dormant," Couch, 47, said Friday from Kohler Co., where he works in glaze development. "I'm hoping in the future to take it to a different level."

That was also his hope last year after the state's 4th District Court of Appeals agreed with a Sauk County judge who upheld a state Department of Natural Resources littering ticket that was given to Couch. The citation was issued after he released 87 of the hollow ceramic balls, ...
