PHILADELPHIA _ Researchers at Thomas Jefferson University have found evidence for the existence of a gene that increases some people's risk for manic-depressive illness.
While the finding is of no immediate benefit to people suffering from manic-depressive illness, the scientists say the research could eventually open new doors to diagnosing and treating this mood disorder, which affects more than two million people in the United States.
The findings are being reported in Tuesday's issue of the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
