Google scrambling to legitimize Youtube.(ME MEDIA)(Brief article)

Top Google executives including CEO Eric Schmidt are reportedly negotiating deals with content owners such as CBS, Viacom, Time Warner, NBC Universal and News Corp to get the rights to show copyrighted videos on Google's soon-to-be acquired Youtube. Google wants to avoid major lawsuits over Youtube's past practice of showing copyrighted videos without the necessary permissions.

Google is said to be offering equity stakes in Youtube, the Net's most popular video site, and millions of dollars in upfront payments in exchange for content rights.

Content owners, perhaps seeing Youtube's empty purse, had not taken it to court over its pre-Google "we don't ask, you tell us" ...
