THE TASK AT HAND: As Arizona education manager for Intel, Carlos Contreras administers some of the $100 million that the silicon innovator invests in education programs worldwide. Intel's Computer Clubhouse, for example, provides an after-school learning environment; its International Science and Engineering Fair is the world's largest pre-college science competition. The best part of his job, says Contreras, is witnessing the impact of the investment: "It's very rewarding to see the younger kids, their interest in science. Hopefully, that spark will carry on through middle school and high school."
