NEW YORK -- Hickey-Freeman suits at $400?

That's what the upscale Hartmarx company's new Bobby Jones Tailored Clothing for spring '95 is all about. The line of "engineered" suits will open at $400 retail rather than the $850 for the company's regular hand-tailored canvas clothing.

"It's Hickey's version of FridayWear for the chairman of the board," explains Howard Zenner, group executive vice-president. "The suits, sport coats and blazers are meant for the man who wants laid-back weekend clothes and doesn't particularly want to spend a $1,000 for this kind of suit."
