Nov. 21--There was no sophomore slump for crossbows.
In the second season crossbows have been legal for able-bodied hunters to use during Virginia's archery seasons, the weapons drew even more hunters than in their debut.
Through late last week, the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries had sold 19,786 resident crossbow hunting licenses, along with 836 for non-residents.
That's a jump of nearly 37 percent from last year's total sales of just more than 15,000.
The new opportunity appears to be attracting some converts from the ranks of conventional bowhunters, as well as some new folks, likely those who ...
