Nobody writes 'Henry 8'. It's always Henry VIII. The credits for most films and many TV programmes made in 2006 will include the date at the end as MMVI, not 2006. It's no surprise that Roman numbers are used in so many applications. Considering Britain's Celtic, Norman, Saxon and Roman background, it's more of a surprise that we use Arabic numerals. There have been relatively few other influences from Arabia in our culture. As to efficiency, there are only seven Roman symbols needed, while the Arabic system uses 10. ...
