Even as Oregon fishermen are set to receive another $500,000 of state funds to help offset the lack of a salmon season, issues regarding the Klamath River aren't abating.
The Pacific Fishery Management Council may be able to help alleviate some of the season planning problems that, this year, presented California and Oregon fishermen with a season closure at the last minute.
Instead of making season changes by emergency rule, the council could allow some fishing in the spring, even when Klamath River fall chinook runs are preliminarily predicted to have fewer returns. An environmental impact statement and proposal should be available to the public early ...
