The cabinet has approved a draft bill that would ban judges from moonlighting and make it compulsory for them and their spouses to declare their assets and financial interests in a special register.
With Cape Judge President John Hlophe and several other judges under a cloud because of their alleged financial interests, the bill, if adopted, would go a long way to ensure proper regulation and avert the potential for conflict of interest.
