Originally from Chile, drummer/bandleader/percussionist Alex García moved, at a very young age, to Perú with his family. By the age of 13, his family relocated to Havana, Cuba. At the age of 17 he decided to study music. His first music teacher was his father, Fernando García, a classical contemporary composer. García was enrolled at Havana's Ignacio Cervantes School of Music, studying drum-set with the legendary Enrique Plá (of Irakere fame).
