The reputation of Hannah Hoch (1889-1978) has long depended on a notorious photocollage included in the First International Dada Fair. But Cut with the Kitchen Knife Dada through the Last Weimar Beer-Belly Cultural Epoch of Germany (1919-20) is actually something of an anomaly in her oeuvre. The celebrated icon is much larger (45 by 35 1/2 inches) than her other works, which--as revealed by the 32 collages in this exhibition from the Institute for Foreign Cultural Relations in Stuttgart--are invariably intimate in scale.
