When Marty Hand was running an errand on South Avenue in Syracuse early Thanksgiving morning, he spotted a man, walking alone, who seemed to be down on his luck.

Hand rolled down the car window, invited the stranger over to Thanksgiving dinner later in the day, handed over his address and said the door would be open - no commitments necessary.

To those who know Marty Hand - and where he came from - this was no surprise.

"It's just his way," his wife, Pam, said as she took the turkey out of the oven later in the day.
