18 miles to pick up a pension; Sacking closes rural post office.(News)

A REMOTE rural community has lost its post office after its postmistress was sacked.

The branch in Chevy Chase, Otterburn, near the border of Northumberland and Scotland, closed two weeks ago after Post Office Ltd terminated the contract of postmistress Liz Smith.

But last night a spokesman for Post Office Ltd refused to reveal why she had been sacked.

He said: "We terminated the contract with the current sub-postmistress and as a result of that we can no longer use the premises as it does not belong ...
