Nov. 26--It's not clear when or how the baseball cap graduated from useful sporting accessory to fashion statement.
But, with the opening Saturday of the New Era baseball hat company's second flagship store, Buffalo now sits squarely on the cutting edge of the trend.
The downtown store -- with its boutique look -- is part of the $15 million transformation of the former Federal Reserve building at 160 Delaware Ave. into New Era's new business headquarters where 285 employees will work.
New Era is riding a surge in popularity for the reliable baseball cap, selling more than 2.5 million hats per year.
